Artist Information
Born January 25th, 1986 in Bronx, NY, Alex, aka A-ru, was brought into this world. At the age of one, A-ru was introduced to hip-hop by his older brother, who blasted the tunes of Cold Crush, Crash Crew, and African Bambaataa. Music in A-ru's family is not something foreign. A-ru's mother grew up during the purest years of hip-hop, knowing Pow Wow, a member of African Bambaataa, and T-la-Rock. But it doesn't stop there. A-ru's father spent his childhood singing with his Doo Wop group, The Disciples, in the tunnels of Riverside Park. "Music flows through my blood". Although A-ru was born in the Boogie Down, being a Nuyorican like his mother was not an option. For better opportunities, A-ru moved to Florida, becoming a new breed called Florida-rican. At the age of fourteen, through the help of his long time friend A.O., A-ru found and began his passion for rapping with a simple tape deck and MIC set-up. After being in a group for 4 years called Vigilantez, A-ru decided to take a stab at the solo gig, hoping to express his personal experiences through music. Coming with his catchy hooks and speaking about family issues, A-ru hits you from various angles showing his creativity and versatility.
